Muni Long - Plot Twist

Updated: Apr 4

Muni Long (stage name), a singer, songwriter, and sporadic rapper from Vero Beach, Florida, was born Priscilla Renea. The singer-songwriter composed "California King Bed" by Rihanna, "Timber" by Pitbull and Kesha, "Worth It" by Fifth Harmony, and "Who Says" by Selena Gomez . She has also experimented with becoming a solo performer; in 2009, at the age of 18, she earned a record deal with Capitol Records after racking up millions of views on YouTube. That same year, she also released her own debut album, "Jukebox". But up until lately, her only attention had been on songwriting.

The musician started performing under this alias in 2020, and so far, four EPs have been published; Public Displays Of Affection Too, Black Like This, Nobody Knows and one LP: Public Displays Of Affection (an album). When her song "Hrs and Hrs" reached number 1 and remained there for six weeks, she became the first independent female musician to do so.

In a Vogue interview, Long discussed her diagnosis of lupus and acknowledged that the condition “having the disease ignited an even bigger desire in her to revive her solo work. “It really put things into perspective,” Long says. “I was like, ‘If I die, I will be so pissed, having never gone after the things that I wanted.’ That's really what set it off.” Long will released her first EP under the name Muni Long by the end of the year on her own label, Supergiant Records.

We chose "Plot Twist" from the most recent album to highlight for you since it perfectly captures the mood of the upcoming melancholy R&B season.

The album is engrossing and compelling, from the heartbreakingly honest "Plot Twist," in which Long learns that her lover is leading a double life and has a secret family, to the upbeat and happy "Baby Boo," which features Saweetie. Although the beats and melodies are important to the record's appeal, Long's voice is the actual draw. You will get chills from the intensity in her voice on the sorrowful "Time Machine," and on "To Do List," Long reaches astonishing new heights with her upper range.

Her songwriting is also excellent. Fans can listen to how Long captures a variety of romantic circumstances. Her lyrics are straightforward and sincere without being harsh. She has a wonderful flair for a hook that will stick in your head, and she is equally at ease criticizing a man for his actions as she is extolling his merits.

Lyrics by Lyric Find

I can't believe you think you got away With all the stupid games you like to play 'Cause I went through your phone the other day The things I saw, I won't even say I went and got my pistol out the safe Can't even lie, you made me contemplate Oh, 'cause I really wanna tell you what I know Just to see the look that's on your face

You got a whole 'nother life, two kids and a wife Even a different last name Too good for you, your mama know it too Your family put me up on game Said you had a whole 'nother life I've fallen for your lies But last night everything changed Another plot twist They're not even your kids They look just like your brother by the way Plot twist

Ooh Another plot twist

Tried to be gangsta, tried to keep it together but I'm falling apart Don't know what happened, I guess I really love you Guess I gave you my heart Even though I know you're wrong And I knew it all along That don't mean it doesn't hurt, baby Waking up to see you gone Talk to your wife on the phone, she don't even sound surprised Said it ain't the first time you ain't come home at night She gave me a piece of advice Told me, girl, dry your eyes Get your get back on these niggas, don't you ever let them see you cry

Got a whole 'nother life, two kids and a wife Even a different last name (yeah, yeah) Too good for you, your mama know it too (she do) Your family put me up on game (oh, yeah, yeah, yeah) Said you had a whole 'nother life I've fallen for your lies (I fell) Last night everything changed (oh yeah) Another plot twist They're not even your kids They look just like your brother by the way Plot twist
